Fitbit is a small device to track your physical activity or sleep. You can wear the device all day because it easily clips in your pocket, pants, shirt, bra, or to your wrist when you are sleeping. The data collected is automatically synched online when the device is near the base station. After uploading, you can explore visualizations of your physical activity and sleep quality on the web site. You can also view your data using their new mobile web site. You can also track what you eat, other exercises that you do, and your weight.

Sleep Cycle

Sleep Cycle is an iPhone alarm clock app which analyzes your sleep patterns and wakes you when you are in the lightest sleep phase. The application uses the accelerometer in the iPhone to detect your motion during sleep, and analyzes this to identify periods of deep sleep, shallow sleep, and dreaming. As well as the alarm function, sleep cycle produces sleep graphs showing the progression of sleep during the night.

Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program. As such, you can use Excel to record various information about yourself. One way is to record your data by date. First, you make a column representing dates and another column for the data that you want to track (e.g., steps). Every day, you fill in a row with the date and how many steps you took for that date. When you have several weeks of data, you can use Excel to generate graphs of your step counts over time.
